Enzon Discontinues its Plan to Spin-off its Biotechnology Business

BRIDGEWATER, NJ – December 1, 2008 – Enzon Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (Nasdaq: ENZN) today announced that the Board of Directors has decided to discontinue its previously announced plan to spin-off the biotechnology business into a separate public company.  The Company will continue to focus on the fundamentals of the business.  This includes the continued improvement of its operating efficiency and the advancement of its novel R&D portfolio.
