Community Involvement

Over the last quarter century, there have been incredible advances in cancer treatment and Enzon is committed to supporting those institutions in its own community who are on the frontlines of cancer treatment.

In October of 2006, in honor of the Company’s 25 years of service developing innovative cancer therapies and treatments for life-threatening diseases, Enzon donated $25,000 to The Steeplechase Cancer Center at Somerset Medical Center in Somerville, New Jersey. The donation will directly fund the second phase of Somerset Medical Center Foundation’s $30 million “Breaking New Ground” campaign, which is designed to improve the quality of care it offers cancer patients through the acquisition of advanced diagnostic and information technologies.  

In the beginning of 2007, the CEO Roundtable on Cancer, a nonprofit organization founded in 2001 by former President George H.W. Bush, awarded Enzon the prestigious CEO Cancer Gold Standard™. Enzon was one of seven companies honored by former President Bush for Enzon’s initiatives. The CEO Cancer Gold Standard, developed in collaboration with the American Cancer Society, represents Enzon’s continued commitment to the healthy lives of its valued employees, and their families. Enzon joined an elite group of just 11 other leading companies, including only one other biotech company, who have received this accreditation. Some of these prestigious companies include Johnson & Johnson, GlaxoSmithKline, the MD Anderson Cancer Center, AstraZeneca, Novartis and OSI Pharmaceuticals.   

Enzon actively exceeded the scope of typical corporate wellness efforts, as the rigorous requirements of the Gold Standard call for a company to evaluate its benefits and culture and take extensive, concrete actions to promote cancer prevention, early detection, and access to quality care. Enzon has established a comprehensive healthcare program to accomplish these goals and express its strong appreciation and concern for all Enzon employees’ well-being.
